COVID-19 Update 3.8.2020
We have gradually re started doing hip and knee replacements from 1.7.2020 for both NHS and private patients but as you would expect waiting times have increased. Still our aim is to be able to schedule the surgery within 6-8 weeks for private patients and within 16-18 weeks for NHS patients.
We are following NHS England and British Orthopaedic Association guideline and patients are expected to self-isolate for 2 weeks prior and 1 week after date of surgery. Patients also receive a Covid swab test 48-72 hours prior to surgery and we have also concentrated on reducing the length of stay and majority of patients are able to go home within 24 -48 hours of surgery reducing their Covid risk and also the risks of other Healthcare Associated Infections.
Enhanced Recovery Protocol
Doing exercises both before and after Hip and Knee replacement is an important component for getting good results.
It is possible to follow exercise programme without Face to Face appointment with Physiotherapist.
We strongly recommend you follow AAHKS (American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons) protocols.
This website has very useful patient information with pdf exercises sheets and also videos.
